DESCRIPTION |
| | CHROMATICS Chrome rats vs Basements Ruts Label : GSL Records Year : 2002 Format : CD Style : Punk / Rock Availability : Out of stock
| | | | Description : | Seattle’s CHROMATICS follow-up their recent split 7' EP with their debut full-length release. Recorded in Portland in early 2002, and produced by Jonny Jewel of GLASS CANDY & THE SHATTERED THEATRE, 'Chrome Rats vs. Basement Ruts' chronicles this explosive, sexually-charged punk band’s maturation - and subsequent implosion; 3 of the 4 chromatics parted ways when this thing was ‘in the can’ leaving vocalist/songwriter Adam to pick up the pieces (as he has done, I might add, and remarkably well). Thirteen hi-fi tracks of writhing, claustrophobic venom that recall all the things we love about SCREAMERS, THE FALL, MECCA NORMAL, and JOY DIVISION while forging genuinely provocative new ground. Adam handles vocals on most tracks, but drummer Hannah, bassist Michelle, and guitarist Devin also contribute here and there, underscoring the band’s obvious gender-matching as well as their socio-political concerns. For the uninitiated, CHROMATICS is the evolution of SOILED DOVES, a short-lived Seattle band featuring Adam, Hannah, and Devin, as well as BLOOD BROTHERS co-vocalist Johnny Vade. The as-yet unreleased SOILED DOVES album basting in the GSL vaults may well see the light of day before the end of 2003…
