| DESCRIPTION |
| | SEVERIN, GABRIEL Soliloques Label : Sub Rosa Year : 2009 Format : CD Style : Experimental Availability : Out of stock
| | | | | Description : | This isn't going to be an easy ride. Sound artist Gabriel Severin has been working in groups like Silk Saw, Jardin d'Usure, Ultraphonist, Rob(u)rang and the more widely known Dead Hollywood Stars, for around 20 years now, and this new solo work finds him venturing into seriously challenging territory. Soliloquies finds Severin recording and processing his readings of 'écrit brut' texts from the likes of Aimable Jayet, Sylvain Lecoq and Jeanne Tripier (all in French, of course). The delivery is incredibly visceral, captured in a slightly unreal, electroacoustic fashion using an assortment of different microphones placed at various distances from the speaker - the closest being pressed up against Severin's throat. The result can often be unflinchingly up-close and heavily articulated, with certain pieces augmented by processed background noises for accompaniment. This is heavy-going stuff but comes recommended to anyone looking for a challenge.
