| | | | | Description : | Brooklyn-based DJ/producer Shakeyface, a reformed indie-rocker and Berklee school of music drop-out, makes music that defies easy categorization. His wide-ranging debut EP, Puddle Jumping During a Monsoon, will most likely end up in the hip-hop section of your local record store, and the thick, dirty beats that anchor this eclectic mix back that up in spades. Still, there's a little bit of everything here. From the spare, dusky piano lanes that open 'Helpless' to the spaced-out dub styling of 'Fishing for Swords,' Shakeyface manages to cover a lot of territory in a fairly short time. And despite the chaotic -- almost haphazard it seems at times -- blending of genres, Puddle Jumping maintains continuity throughout, melding warm jazz and soul to stark, electronic beeps and odd, disconnected sound effects, generating a surprisingly loose, mellow vibe.
