DESCRIPTION |
| | FORGAS BAND PHENOMENA The Electric Ear Label : Cuneiform Records Year : 2018 Format : CD Style : Jazz Availability : In stock
Price : 14.70 € - BUY
| | | | Description : | Drummer/composer Patrick Forgas first came to prominence when in 1977, aged 26, he released his debut album Cocktail, recorded with various members of legendary French ensembles Zao and Magma. But it was not until 1997 that he returned to the world of jazz/rock with his band Forgas Band Phenomena, which has now released six albums in those 21 years.
L'Oreille Électrique consists of five epic mini-suites, all of them 10-12 minutes in duration, further exemplifying Forgas's talent for, in the words of Exposé's Peter Thelen, 'combining stunningly beautiful melodies with a driving jazz-rock propulsion that takes the listener through seemingly endless labyrinthine curves and canyons, shifting effortlessly from soaring flights to gentle sections of repose and back again, with each new section highlighting a different aspect of the amazing group interplay'.
Recommended if you like: Jean-Luc Ponty, Ian Carr's Nucleus, Frank Zappa's instrumental works, Soft Machine, Billy Cobham's early bands and National Health.
'...there's always a logical and organic flow, despite knotty and sometimes orchestral transitions.... Its combination of singable themes and rock rhythms will appeal to...all fans of improvisation within a richly composed context.' – All About Jazz
'...orchestral jazz-rock...of the kind scarcely made anymore; virtuosic, tasteful, and melodically pleasing.' – Exposé
