IT DOCKUMER LOKAELTSJE Trump Yn Makkum
Description
TRUMP YN MAKKUM is the title of the new album (CD/cassette/digital) by the Frisian-language punk legend It Dockumer Lokaeltsje. Just as on their previous albums from this and last century, Peter Sijbenga (bass, vcs, keys), Sytse J.van Essen (gtr) and Fritz de Jong (drms, vcs) report on that ghostly universe full of dead and undead Frisians that continues to beam in on them after almost forty years.
In addition to the usual stories about house painters and school teachers, TRUMP YN MAKKUM received alarmingly many messages about the war and the associated end of times. Even scarier is the astral assignment the men received to produce a musical about , something that people in the Frisian village of Makkum still don't like to talk about after all these years. What's done is done.
Trembling with fear, It Dockumer Lokaeltsje has incorporated all this into sixteen new songs, in a way that only they can: flawed, loving and completely psychodemic - whatever that means. The band members once again leaning with one foot in the musical grave dug for them by the punk and (no) wave from their childhood. The motorics of Wire in 'Mieke hat un droan kocht', the rhythm of DEVO and NoMeansNo in 'Alle hat alles' and 'Poddestuolleding'... while in 'Frosketstromen' Adam & the Ants are not fully understood. Of course all songs are short and concise where possible and where not possible they take a little (or much) longer.
The fact that TRUMP YN MAKKUM is released not only on CD but also on audio cassette is pure coincidence. During her preliminary investigation at a shipyard in Makkum, It Dockumer Lokaeltsje found a large pile of unplayed gold cassette tapes in ditto boxes. The attached (and unpaid) invoice dated from 1989. Inquiries with diligent Makkumers again yielded little more than grumbling and a sullen look away. 'Nim mar mei', they said. (English translation: take it and bugger off)
