Description
'Their sound combines jazz elements with a pop sensibility during the vocal numbers that constitute about half the album. Catchy melodies belie the intricacy of the music, beginning with the tricky vocal-and-horn unison lines, all delivered with razor-sharp precision and captured in a pristine and detailed recording. This accessible young band, true to jazz but with a fresh approach, renews my conviction that new artists exist who, with a little exposure, could help jazz reach a broader audience.'-The Absolute Sound
In just 3 years, with two previous albums, Pixel has solidly established themselves as one of the most exciting, innovative and accessible jazz bands on the international scene today.
Their innovative style is simple but original. Pixel combine the instruments and sound of jazz - the piano-less quartet of classic Ornette Coleman or Gerry Mulligan/Chet Baker; sax, trumpet, double bass and drums - with the energy, attitude and melodies of rock musicians performing catchy, indie-pop songs, featuring vocals by the band leader, the award-winning, Ellen Andrea Wang!
Golden Years is the group's exciting third album and they have a full slate of shows lined up for the next 15 months to support it.
