| Description : | Seattle's CHROMATICS features former members of THE VOGUE (Made in Mexico Records) and the short-lived SOILED DOVES (which was basically CHROMATICS with Johnny from BLOOD BROTHERS on vox!). CHROMATICS' 'Cavecare' demo was recently pressed onto vinyl by Hand Held Heart, who also released their debut 7'. Their sound lands somewhere amid the terrain of classic postpunk skree like THE FALL and JOY DIVISION, the informed bass-heavy riddims of THE CLASH, and previous northwestern DIY bands like BEAT HAPPENING and MECCA NORMAL. Their two tracks here were recorded with Calvin Johnson at Olympia's famed Dub Narcotic studio. CHROMATICS are currently on tour in the US with Kill Rock Stars' THE GOSSIP. MONITOR BATS, meanwhile, are the avant side-project of members of THE GOSSIP, cooking up a freeform jazz-influenced cacophony which you might say is the peanut butter to CHROMATICS chocolate... | |
