Price : 16.60 € - BUY
| | | | Description : | Being enthusiasts of each other's work for a long time, electronic musician Jean-François Brohée and vocalist Julie Cambier decided to work together and created the project tangtype in 2004. They imagined their collaboration as a tangram, a constant re-combination of elements, making sound / voice experiments evolving, reconstructing themselves from parts to parts, resulting into a redefinition of the traditional songs format. The duo first staged in February 2005 as part of a special event aiming to present the prizewinners of the Belgian contest 'Concours Circuit', category 'Electronic Music'. For the occasion, two of their tracks were released on the compilation ‘I hate Electronics'. Some years later and several tracks further, ‘flake out' was released first in 2007 as an EP by No Type Records then as a full album in 2008 by Humpty Dumpty Records, followed by a series of live performances in Europe. Working on each other's material between Brussels and Vienna, they slowly crafted their second opus through file transfers and sporadic meetings. Last year, after adding a final touch at Minusgroundzero (Vienna), they mastered their 8 tracks album 'trajet' at Amann Studios (Vienna).
'...Simultaneously sensual and icy. As far as juxtapositions go then, Tangtype are far more appealing than, say, bananas and vinegar. Ambitious music, deftly executed' (the online word dump of Andrew Valentine)
Past the dense pressurized medium of Flake Out (2008) the propagating soundscape of Tangtype finds new texture in continuous motion and retrieves substance from fickle displacement. Like all meaningful travel, the destination is at best an anecdote, while the journey remains the experience. Trajet (2014) fuses together years of sound travel experiences from trips, exchanges and places in an odyssey that lasts less than an hour but leaves you with a memory of attendancy. Jean-François Brohée and Julie Cambier of Tangtype made this happen by letting sound data travel, morph, evolve and slowly resolve on their fertile Vienna – Brussels up- downlink. The result will scatter and propagate all around you.
