Price : 22.70 € - BUY
| | | | Description : | Christian Marclay was one of the earliest musicians to make an art form out of the turntable, using the device as a tool to make surprising juxtapositions. He began performing on turntables in 1979. Marclay is a visual artist and composer whose work explores the connection between raw sound, noise, video and film. He studied art at several universities in the 1970s. His use of turntables to create sound collages began independently of HIp Hop's use of turntables as instruments and was formulated for completely different ends.
In addition to his work in the music, he has recently gained even greater renown as a visual artist, most notably for his film The Clock, a 24-hour compilation of time-related scenes from movies that has gained huge press attention, including a 16 page article in The New Yorker earlier this year.
Toshio Kajiwara has been performing as a sound artist since the early 90's. Born in Tokyo and raised in Hong Kong, London, and New York, Toshio also plays drums, guitar, and cello. In 1999 he began organizing an experimental sound event series and music label called Phenomena based in New York with his partner DJ Olive, Phenomena has presented over 500 international artists interested in the search of global interaction and communication through sound performance.
DJ Olive, born Gregor Asch, is a dj and turntablist, active in free improvisation, jazz, and illbient music. The son of ethnographic filmmakers, DJ Olive was an active member of the infamous Brooklyn Williamsburg scene of the early 90's. In 1991, he co-founded Lalalandia Entertainment Research Corporation and helped to create many of the most memorable Brooklyn Warehouse after-hour environs of that period. DJ Olive has collaborated with William Hooker, Kim Gordon, Zeena Parkins, Uri Caine, Medeski Martin and Wood, Dave Douglas, Ikue Mori, and many others.
