| Description : | Jesus is my son is the solo project of guitarist Grégory Duby. Original works of Jesus is my son contain elements of minimalism, folk music, drone and 20th century classical music, as well as compositions based on blues, oriental and medieval music. Aspiring to create melancholic and naked music, Grégory Duby's influences range from Erik Satie to Morton Feldman via Popol Vuh and Lorren Connors. After numerous EPs, 'Faust et l'Enfer de Dante' is the 3rd full-length album to be released by Jesus is My Son. The record stays in the continuity of the previous albums, this time with a 'song' approach. ‘Faust et l'Enfer de Dante' is about literature and feelings one has while reading, and includes several half-improvisations, a couple of slide songs and slow folk dances. The songs about the story of Faust are divided in two groups In the first group, the songs are about specific moments of the legend. For instance, the 2 tracks 'Première danse de Sabbat' and 'Deuxième danse de Sabbat' depict the Sabbath night that Faust and the devil joined; 'Une longue promenade' follows Gretchen and Faust during their walk in the park; 'Chanson de café - deuxième version' was sung in the cellar by the group of young men to whom Mephistopheles offers wine. The songs of the second group are about Faust's feelings throughout the story. Among these songs, there are : 'Autant en mourir', 'Une nuit dans les limbes', 'Je l'aime (seul)'. In 'L'Enfer de Dante', the tracks refer to the infernos circles. They illustrate the repetitions of the tortures and the fact that the deeper Dante drowns into hell, the colder the place. The tracks 'Troisième chanson triste', 'Les violents contre Dieu et la nature' and 'Je l'aime' are part of Dante's inferno. As with a good read, ‘Faust et l'Enfer de Dante' has to be appreciated slowly. | |
