DESCRIPTION |
| | ELIXIR Don't be scared Label : Quatermass Year : 2002 Format : CD Style : Electro Availability : Available on request
Price : 13.50 € - BUY
| | | | Description : | Don't Be Scared' is the third album released under the name of Elixir, though the trio of Martin Stovey, Steve Jones and Richard Pushong are also known as Phobos 3. All those who enjoyed the latter's splendid 'Melody For Sleep' will find much to submerge themselves in on this latest release which picks up where events left off. Once again, that seamless mix of film dialogue, breakbeat and drone rock pays dividends with closing track 'Peace 9' and 'Burning Tomb' sounding like worthy extra tracks to that album. Elsewhere electronic squelches fight for space with industrial rhythms on the highly accurately-titled 'Gargantuan' but it's the brilliant centrepiece 'Trapdoor To Another Life' that really raises the bar; a gloriously driving anthem of crunching bass rhythms offset by cinematic string samples and a lonely trumpet. Whilst being head-noddingly cool at the same time, this record boasts a menace to match the dramatic cover art of a burning car.
