Soit Janel Leppin (violoncelle, voix et tant d’autres instruments) et Anthony Pirog (guitares et tout ce qui peut aider), mari et épouse au civil. Tous deux actifs au sein de la scène alternative de Washington D.C. Ceci pour la biographie que nous compléterons en précisant que « New Moon in the Evil Age » n’est que le troisième album conçu par le couple en… vingt années de vie commune. Oui, ils prennent le temps de (bien) faire les choses. Puis ils s’occupent aussi chacun de leur côté, ce qui peut éviter les disputes ! Revenons-en à « New Moon in the Evil Age », un double CD bicéphale qui se situe aux antipodes du free-jazz et des expérimentations. Le premier CD aligne dix pièces instrumentales introspectives et belles aux entournures. Rien à jeter : le violoncelle et la guitare s’entrelacent et on sait que ces deux-là sont faits pour bien s’entendre, bien s’écouter. Viennent ensuite les neuf titres du second volet. Un concept étonnant, voire inattendu. Les mélodies sont fortes, Janel chante magnifiquement, soutenue par une instrumentation contemplative. On pense fortement aux Swans version Jarboe, aux Cocteau Twins… C’est magnifique et ça se passe de (mon) commentaire…
