Hey Mom, Where's Tumbuktu?

Description :KOVLO, with the release of their first two records, 'A new position for the second degree burnt'(2005) and 'I'm so happy on this boat (2007/2008), became one of the most interesting and acclaimed european post-rock bands. The sound of the band moves between quite, intimate and mysterious soundscapes, and hypnotic, furious and violent noise explosions, in the tradition of bands like Mogwai, GSYBE!, Shellac, Mono, Explosion in the sky.

KOVLO are born in Canton Ticino, Switzerland. Stefano Chiassai, Giona Mattei, Alessandro Del Fiore and Alessio Galupi come from very different experiences, but the desire to come together to create something special is very strong. The music of KOVLO could be defined as post-rock, with influences from noise-rock and even jazz.

Through experimentation and putting together different personalities, after some months the project KOVLO takes a shape and creates its own way. The first round ends in September 2005, with the release of the first demo record 'A new position for a second degree burnt', recorded at the historical Bips Studio in Milan (recording studio in the past of bands like Afterhours, Matia Bazar and Casino Royale), with the support of the sound engineer Nicola Calgari (collaborator in the past of Matia Bazar, Ivano Fossati, Afterhours, Prozac+).

From October 2005 to December 2006 play live, promoting their first record, all over Southern Switzerland and Northern Italy. As it happens with most post-rock bands, the live experience is essential to discover and enjoy the music of KOVLO. During their live shows, KOVLO are able to express at the best the tension and power of their sound, with its psychedelic and hypnotic soundscapes.

In April 2007, KOVLO recorded their second album at the RedHouseRecordings studio in Italy, one of the best recording studios in Italy (where Steve Albini also works as a producer). The artistic producer of the record will be Rob Ellis (producer and musician of PJ Harvey and Marianne Faihfull, collaborator of Placebo, Laika, Swell, and others). The sound engineer of the record will be David Lenci (who worked with Blonde Redhead, June of 44, Uzeda, Bonnie Prince Billy, Gianna Nannini, and others).

'I'm so happy on this boat' has sold more than 500 copies around the world, through online distribution (On the camper records store, CDBaby), Italian distribution (Jestrai) and U.S. distribution (Differential records). The promotional tour of the record started in december 2007 and touched Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Denmark.

In 2010 Alessandro Del Fiore (piano) left, while Mario Bisignani (guitars) joined the band. Spring 2011 KOVLO will release their new record, 'Hey Mom, where's Timbuctù?' (On the Camper records).
