DESCRIPTION |
| | FLYING LUTTENBACHERS, THE Revenge Of The Flying Luttenbachers (Remastered) Label : Skin Graft Records Year : 2017 Format : LP Style : Jazz / Hardcore Availability : In stock
Price : 18.60 € - BUY
| | | | Description : | March 2017 marked the first Flying Luttenbachers performances in more than a decade. The band originally existed between 1991 and 2007, running a renegade stylistic gamut from hardcore Free Jazz improvisation to rigorous modernist composition, under the dictatorship of composer and instrumentalist Weasel Walter.
Alumni of the group include experimental rock heavies Ed Rodriguez (Deerhoof), Mick Barr (Krallice), Jonathan Hischke (Hella) & Alex Perkolup (Cheer-Accident). Early incarnations of the Flying Luttenbachers featured noted improvisers Fred Lonberg Holm, Jeb Bishop, Hal Russell, and Ken Vandermark.
In 1995 Walter enlisted an entirely new line-up for The Flying Luttenbachers SKiN GRAFT Records' debut. Imagine Derek Bailey, Immortal, No New York and Fushitsusha all rolled up into one. Now regarded as a milestone in extreme outsider music, with the release of 1996's 'Revenge of The Flying Luttenbachers', Weasel submitted his own Anti-Life Equation: FREE JAZZ=DEATH METAL.
To celebrate the band's return, 'Revenge' is being made available on vinyl for the first time in 20 years - in a newly remastered edition. 'Revenge of the Flying Luttenbachers is a turning point, from punk jazz to metal jazz. Dispensing with horns, Walter (on drums) is joined by Chuck Falzone (My Name Is Rar-Rar) on guitar and Bill Pisarri (ZZZZZ) on bass, violin, clarinet, etc. The band has the texture and feel of traditional rock, but the songs are anything but. Quick bursts of noisy energy and improvisation are joined by extended guitar riffs and balls-out cock-rock - at times, the album resembles death metal, tempered by the sensibilities of avant-garde jazz.' - TROUSER PRESS
'Rarely will you find such a brilliant set of musicians...' - ALTERNATIVE PRESS
'Much more satisfying than a lot of the free-skree Japanese stuff doing the rounds' - THE WIRE
'Another good reason to quit your band - you can't do this yourself' - YOUR FLESH
'An all-together different approach to music' - KERRANG!
'Mindblowingly exciting' - SPIN MAGAZINE
