| Description : | Originally released in 1992, 'Dig Out theSwitch' captures Dazzling Killmen in theirformative state: raw, volatile, and pushinghardcore to the brink of musical combustion.Engineered by Steve Albini (rest in power)and produced by Wilco's Jeff Tweedy(that's not a typo), the album is equal partspensive and panicked. There's more space here than on 1994'sgenre-defining 'Face of Collapse' - longersilences, stranger structures - but the DNAis unmistakable. Darin Gray's bass anchorsthe chaos with geometric slabs of melody.Blake Fleming's drumming rolls andtwitches like an oncoming panic attack. AndNick Sakes' guitar is pure sheets-of-soundclanging - the perfect foil to the vocal cordshe pushes past the pain threshold on trackslike 'Serpentarium' and 'BottomFeeder.' The rhythm section's jazzschooling is evident, but thanks to Sakes'untrained attack, so is the post-punkimpulse to destroy what you've just built.Fully remastered and repackaged, thisedition of 'Dig Out the Switch' brings alandmark album back into focus - restoringthe tension, grime, and urgency thatinfluenced a generation of math rock, noise, and experimental hardcore acts to come.Essential for fans of Craw, Shellac, BlindIdiot God, and the parts of your recordcollection you don't show to strangers. | |
