DESCRIPTION |
| | RHYTHM OF BLACK LINES Human hand, animal band Label : GSL Records Year : 2004 Format : CD Style : Rock Availability : Out of stock
| | | | Description : | This is the 5th recording by the Austin group, stepping out from the mottled crevices of their local underground to join up with GSL. On the record, ROBL employ the help of Peter Stopchinski, a noted composer and arranger/ deconstructionist/humorist in Austin, to help flesh out the initial string and horn ideas. Amazingly, they've also enlisted the help of Sarah and Leigh from the Tosca String Quartet, who at the time were in between tours with David Byrne. Jason Ward, the group’s long-time producer/engineer recorded ROBL in both Austin and Chicago. With Mr. Ward behind the boards, the music becomes the essence of a first touch between two humans. Indeed an animalistic sensation. The listener may be tempted to categorize the music as 'existential-rock' but the record plays out far too theatrically for such classification. HHAB creates a world where allegories come close to madcap; love may only be seen with 20/40 vision, teeth become microchips, friends pull you out of bed and float you down the Rhone River in drunken despair, and finally a world where the politics of friendship are simple enough to break into war, but complex enough to drive one into seclusion.
